Creating a culture of learning:
The Essential Practices in the SetPoint process
JBHM specialists spend 2-4 days in SetPoint schools each week, using detailed rubrics to coach the entire staff on these principles of effective instruction and school management.
- Guaranteeing an Essential Curriculum. A research-based curriculum, linked to standards, for all students, with special emphasis on reading, math, and writing.
- Providing a School Culture and Climate Conducive to Learning. A safe, secure, and orderly environment for learning throughout the building.
- Maximizing Academic Learning Time. Expand amount and quality of instructional time, with special emphasis on the three core subjects, including ample time for deliberate structured practice.
- Monitoring Student Achievement. Assessments woven into classroom practice, using technology that continuously generates student data without impinging on teacher time.
- Promoting Professional Practices. Educational best practices supported by job-embedded professional development.
Progress on all Essential Practices is continuously monitored via the web-based ILeRT system (“Instructional Leadership Reporting Tool”).

Web-based ILeRT tool continuously advises stakeholders of the status of the Five Essential Practices.
